Stagecoach 2022: 5 takeaways about the festival’s lineup

The Stagecoach Country Music Festival’s 2022 lineup is more inclusive than ever, from the music to the performers.
The Stagecoach Country Music Festival announced its 2022 lineup on Monday, July 12, and while the festival has been around since 2007, this lineup has a lot of surprises for the event, which returns to the Empire Polo Club in Indio April 29-May 1. Stagecoach favorites Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett and Luke Combs headline, but the most notable thing about this lineup is that the festival has definitely become more racially and LGBTQ-inclusive across the 51 artists announced so far. 1. This is Stagecoach’s most racially diverse lineup. After the nationwide protests following George Floyd’s murder, many corporations promised more racial diversity. Stagecoach promoter Goldenvoice, for one, appears to be delivering on it. The 2022 lineup, in particular, features Black artists throughout the bill, from R&B icon Smokey Robinson to emerging country singer-songwriter and pianist Reyna Roberts. Other artists contributing to Stagecoach’s most diverse lineup yet include Jimmie Allen, Breland, Charley Crockett, Amythyst Kiah, The Mavericks, Yola, Shy Carter and Rhiannon Giddens. Off the stage, the festival has tapped the Compton Cowboys, a group of Black horseback riders who run a ranch in Compton, to be part of the festival. 2. Stagecoach is embracing more LGBTQ artists. Perhaps we’ll see more rainbow flags in the crowd at Stagecoach in 2022. The festival is championing LGBTQ diversity in a genre where few artists have come out publicly.
