The Google Pixel 5a could be here very soon, and we’ve got all the information you need on the anticipated phone.
Is the Google Pixel 5a definitely coming? Well, we thought for sure it’d be along before the Pixel 6, but with that phone officially confirmed and the Pixel 5 ‘s budget cousin still nowhere to be seen, we’re not so sure anymore. August is still our top pick for a Google Pixel 5a launch date, since that’s a year after the Pixel 4a, and maybe it’ll even launch alongside the Pixel 6 in ‘fall’ (Google’s words, not ours). The Google Pixel 3a launched at IO 2019, which is why we thought the Pixel 5a could possibly show up at IO this year. Given there wasn’t a 2020 event and the Pixel 4a launched later in the year, it was possible that Google would’ve gone back to launching at its big mid-year show, but that wasn’t the case. Whenever it comes out, the Google Pixel 5a is set to be an affordable spin on the Pixel 5 launched in mid-2020 – since that phone itself was a more budget device than we’re used to for Pixel flagships, we’re curious to see what the 5a brings. Naturally, we’re excited for the next affordable Pixel phone, and we’ve now heard some official and unofficial news around the upcoming handset to suggest what it’ll be capable of. The Pixel 4a followed the Google Pixel 4, and so we might also get some clues on what the Pixel 5a will bring from the Pixel 5 – which was in some ways a step back in terms of features, offering users a more affordable flagship option. We can also look at what the Pixel 4a didn’t incorporate and list which features we would be truly excited to see in its successor. Read on for what we’ve already heard, along with what we want to see in the Pixel 5a. The latest release date rumor points to the Google Pixel 5a being both announced and released in August, and another release date leak also suggests it will land in that month. That would make sense since the Pixel 4a was announced in August 2020. On top of which, Google itself has said that the phone will be announced around when “last year’s a-series phone was introduced,” which if we’re talking the Pixel 4a would also mean August – though the Pixel 4a 5G wasn’t unveiled until late September. The Pixel 6 is set to launch ‘fall’, according to Google, and perhaps we’ll see the Pixel 5a debut alongside it. Rumors of Pixel 4a 5G stock shortage also seem to suggest the Pixel 5a could be here in the immediate future, not in a few months.
