‘You gotta’ do what you have to do,’ he conceded to anti-vaxxers
Former president Donald Trump found himself in an awkward spot Saturday in Alabama, where he briefly challenged loyal followers to reconcile their devotion to him with their resistance to vaccines. Speaking to supporters in Cullman, Ala., Trump said he supports vaccinations, but hedged his bets by telling the crowd that he understood why they might resist scientifically sound measures to control COVID infection rates that are skyrocketing in the Deep South. “I believe totally in your freedoms, I do,” he said. “You gotta do what you have to do.” That went over well with the largely unmasked crowd gathered in the deeply Red State where Trump got more than 62% of the vote in November.
