Foul play suspected in apartment blast that left over a dozen injured

Swedish authorities suspect foul play in a powerful blast that shook an apartment building early Tuesday, injuring as many as 20 people and forcing hundreds to evacuate. The explosion occurred just before 5 a.m. local time in the Annedal district of the country’s second-largest city, Goteborg, and set off multiple fires in many apartments, The Associated Press reports. Though police spokesman Thomas Fuxborg said the cause of the blast is not yet known, he told Swedish broadcaster TV4 that investigators are looking into the possibility that a tenant was targeted. “We suspect that someone might have placed something that has exploded,” said Fuxborg. Sixteen people were taken to the city’s main hospital — including three older women and a man in his 50s who were being treated for serious injuries, a spokeswoman for Sahlgrenska University Hospital told the outlet.
