Southaven Middle School in Southaven, Mississippi, said that offering the items was meant to help address the stress of trying to live up to the “ideal body shape,” but the suggestion surprised and upset some parents, WMC-TV reported. “There are girls who have a need for maybe bras or some other essential things that maybe, for whatever reason, they don’t have access to, and I absolutely love the fact that the school felt that maybe they could help with that. But shapewear should have never been in the conversation,” Ashely Heun, a parent of two children at the school, said to WMC.
