The death of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright left a nation in mourning Wednesday. Among those who remembered the 84-year-old diplomat were former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the 42nd president, Bill Clinton, who made Albright the first woman to hold that cabinet position in 1997. “Hillary and I are profoundly saddened,” reads a note posted to the former president’s Twitter feed. The note from the Clintons praised the wartime immigrant from Czechoslovakia as “perfectly suited” for the time she served not only as secretary of state, but also as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997. “Hillary and I will always be deeply grateful for the wonderful friendship we shared and the unfailingly wise counsel she gave us for so many years,” the former commander-in-chief said.
