Various celebrities have taken to social media to share their support for Kamala Harris ahead of November’s election.
After President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, celebrities have thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris.
The political landscape shifted dramatically on Sunday when Biden, citing a desire to pass the torch to a new generation of leadership, threw his full support behind Harris. Since June 27, after his poor performance in a CNN presidential debate against Donald Trump, the president has faced calls from Democrats to withdraw from the ticket. Biden sounded hoarse during the debate and appeared to stumble through several answers, doing little to quell concerns about his age.
Harris released a statement following Biden’s announcement, expressing her intention to earn and win the nomination. She pledged to unite the Democratic Party and the nation to defeat Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, and his agenda.
Now, various celebrities have taken to social media to share their support for Harris and encourage people to donate to the Democratic Party. Newsweek has contacted a spokesperson for Harris for comment via email outside normal working hours.Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato posted on Instagram twice on Sunday to show support for Harris. In one post, the singer reshared a statement from Biden alongside a photo of her and Harris, adding a donation link for the Democratic Party and writing, “Let’s do this.”
In another post, Lovato shared a photo of her and Harris laughing together.Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis also took to Instagram to post a picture of Harris.
“I support wholeheartedly @joebiden and his decision to step down and to endorse unreservedly @kamalaharris”, the actor wrote in the caption. “SHE IS TRUSTED AND TESTED and she is a fierce advocate for women’s rights and people of color and her message is one of HOPE and UNITY for America at her time of great national divide.”John Legend
John Legend took to Threads—a social networking service similar to X, formerly Twitter, that is integrated with Instagram—to share his support for Harris. The musician then shared a screenshot of the messages to his Instagram feed.
He wrote: “Joe Biden has presided over the most consequential first term of real progress in my lifetime. He helped us have the most robust recovery from the pandemic of any nation in the world, invested in our infrastructure and made by far the largest investment in fighting climate change our nation has ever seen. He relieved burdensome college debt for so many. Unemployment, inflation and crime are all down dramatically from the highs caused by the pandemic.
“With this record, he more than earned re-election, but time and age come for us all.
