Candace Cameron Bure criticized the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony for featuring a drag performance which some say was an “interpretation” of The Last Supper, though the ceremony’s artistic director denied it.
Full House star Candace Cameron Bure condemned a controversial moment from the Olympics opening ceremony for its alleged drag “interpretation” of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper.
On social media, Bure noted that the Olympics hold a special place for her family, as her husband Valeri Bure is a two-time Olympic winner.
“The Olympic Games have always brought me so much joy. It’s the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the title,” she said in a video shared on social media. “So to watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s gonna take place over the next two weeks and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting.”
She continued, “And it made me so sad. And someone said, ‘You shouldn’t be sad. You should be mad about it.’ And I’m like, ‘Trust me. It makes me mad.’ But I’m more sad, because I’m sad for souls.”
The moment in question featured a tableau of drag queens in costume, in a formation that some viewers felt was inspired by The Last Supper, which famously depicts Jesus’ last meal with his 12 apostles.
Bure concluded her video on social media with a message to her followers.
