CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson reacted to Notre Dame’s decision to name CJ Carr their starting quarterback to start the 2025 college football season.
Notre Dame made a significant decision on Tuesday as they named redshirt freshman CJ Carr their starting quarterback to start the 2025 college football season.
Carr won the starting job over sophomore Kenny Minchey after a fairly even competition. Despite being the grandson of former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr and having that football lineage, the decision to go with Carr surprises CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson.
“I’m surprised”, Patterson said on CBS Sports HQ. “I think that Kenny Minchey brought his lunch pale. He brought a great work ethic. He brought a performance that was consistent enough to really provide a challenge for a prospect in CJ Carr, who is a little bit more highly ranked and regarded coming out of high school.
