Sandfall Interactive capped off an incredible run at The Game Awards 2025 by immediately announcing new content for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the biggest and most acclaimed releases of 2025, as evident by the glowing reviews and success it’s seen since releasing in April. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 added even more accolades to its name at The Game Awards, and while accepting the grand prize at the closing of this year’s show, Sandfall’s CEO and Creative Director Guillaume Broche casually announced that a previously promised update was live.
Bringing a fresh twist to classic RPG mechanics along with a stunning world and affecting story, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 captured the attention of the gaming world. Following this reception, players were hoping for more content to come. Earlier in October, developer Sandfall Interactive revealed that sales for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had crossed 5 million units, marking an incredible achievement for any game, let alone the debut title from a new studio. To celebrate that milestone, Sandfall announced that a free update would indeed be forthcoming as a thank you to fans for their support, though it did not provide a release window at the time. Clair Obscur also had a major presence at The Game Awards 2025, winning a whopping total of nine out of its 12 nominations, including among them: Best RPG, Best Indie, Best Art Direction, Best Score/Music, and the coveted Game of the Year.
