NewsHubAn accused murderer is facing new charges after authorities say he bashed his head into an x-ray machine while in custody.
Darrius Nichols , 22, was originally arrested in 2015 after he allegedly opened fire on a crowd outside a Texas Southern University student apartment complex, killing one person and wounding another.
Though Nichols was a student at the time of the shooting, both victims were not, according to Houston police.
After the slaying, Nichols was charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies.
But he was released in May after a few months behind bars – and he stayed out on an ankle monitor until a judge revoked his bond on Wednesday, according to court documents.
Later that day, after a medical screening at the inmate processing center, he caused $100,000 of damage by “ramming his head into the imaging screen of the x-ray machine,” according to court papers.
As a result, he broke the machine into two pieces, damaging the computer component, the mounting bracket and the adjustment mechanism, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Gilliland.
He was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and is still being held without bail.
