BERLIN—BMW AG is recalling more than 230,000 vehicles in the U. S. due to potentially dysfunctional air-bag inflaters produced by troubled Japanese manufacturer Takata Corp.
The recalls affect some BMW 3-series cars produced between 2000 and 2002, 5-series cars produced from 2001 to 2002, and sport-utility vehicles made between 2001 and 2003, according to a safety recall report from the U. S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Takata is facing financial pressure after millions of its rupture-prone air bags were recalled around the world.
