A fire at a Westminster strip mall early Sunday, May 7, drew 25 firefighters, who extinguished it within 20 minutes.
One firefighter at the scene experienced a medical emergency not directly related to fighting the fire, said Steve Dohman, a captain with Orange County Fire Authority.
The firefighter was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where he remained under observation later in the day. “He feels better and is in good spirits, ” Dohman said.
The fire apparently started in a purple neon sign on the storefront of American and Chinese Natural Herbs at 13523 Westminster Blvd. It spread to the shop’s soffit — the outdoor overhang that houses electrical wiring.
The main building structure and roof were not damaged, Dohman said.
The fire was reported at 3: 12 a.m. and fully extinguished at 3: 31 a.m., Dohman said. Firefighters from OCFA, Huntington Beach and Garden Grove responded.
