Five policemen rescue Chinese jaywalker stuck in barrier in middle of the road

Man mocked online after he opted to wriggle through the guard rail rather than climb over, getting trapped in the process
Five police officers had to rescue a man in eastern China after he got stuck in a guard rail in the middle of the road. Surveillance video shows the man crossing the street in Bozhou in Anhui province in the small hours of Sunday morning and approaching the barrier. Rather than climbing over it he attempted to slide through the bars and got trapped. He is seen trying several times to wriggle through, but gets stuck. Police said in a statement on social media that a passer-by alerted them to the man’s plight. The five police officers were swiftly able to adjust the barrier and help pull him through. One of the officers is heard telling the man: “You could have climbed over the barrier.” Internet users in China joked about the man’s misfortune, saying he was a contortionist showing off his flexibility. “This story tells us the importance of keeping fit, ” one social media user joked. Another, however, criticised the man for breaking regulations by trying to cross the barrier. “ [He] did not care about his own life for the sake of convenience. Don’ t know if there will be warm-hearted people around next time, although there was one this time, ” they wrote.
