Sony has revealed that it is working with Breaking Bad show runner Vince Gilligan to develop a “VR experience” based on the hit TV series. Details of the project are currently quite scarce.
Breaking Bad is one of the most highly-rated TV shows that ran during 2008-2013. With a star-studded cast featuring the likes of Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Bob Odenkirk, and Giancarlo Esposito, among others, the series flew to popularity when it was on-air a few years ago. It revolved around the life of a high-school chemistry teacher who has been diagnosed with cancer, and has come to realize that he must sell methamphetamine in order to earn enough money so that his family can thrive without him after he inevitably dies.
While the show might be over, it appears that the concept behind it still isn’t. An executive from Sony has revealed that the company is working on a VR project based on Breaking Bad.
Although details on the project are scarce, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment America Shawn Layden has revealed that the company is working with Breaking Bad show runner Vince Gilligan to develop a “VR experience” based on the TV show. He noted that:
Layden further detailed that over a year ago, Sony held a meeting with several show runners including Frank Darabont of The Walking Dead and Ronald Moore of Battlestar Galactica, and that Gilligan was the one who expressed the most interest in developing a VR experience based on his TV show.
That said, Sony hasn’t clarified the specifics of the project, but has noted that it is a VR experience that will blur the lines between what we consider a game and what we view as an interactive experience.
