Microsoft, one of the first to support iOS 11
Here’s another article in the “Microsoft loves the iPhone” section, as the software giant has become one of the first and largest companies to support Apple’s new iOS 11.
Announced at WWDC earlier this week, iOS 11 is the next version of Apple’s operating system for iPhone and iPad. As part of Microsoft’s commitment to non-Windows platforms, including here iOS and Android, the company is updating its apps to support iOS 11 and to integrate capabilities introduced in the new operating system.
The first to do it is the OneDrive app, which will come with support for the new Files app that’s landing on iPhones and iPads with iOS 11. Files is Apple’s first file manager for iOS, as the company finally decided to provide users with more control over their files, a thing that’s been around on Android and iOS since a long time ago.
With OneDrive support in the Files app, users will be allowed to easily manage files, download and upload them to the cloud, though it’s worth mentioning that the dedicated OneDrive app will also continue to be available on iOS devices.
“OneDrive already supports many iOS capabilities, including OneDrive for iMessage, the Share extension, and Apple Pencil and split-screen support on iPad, ” Microsoft explains.
“Today, Apple announced the new Files app at WWDC for iOS 11, and we are excited to announce support for the new app and its file management capabilities. OneDrive integration with the Files app will make it easier for you to access your content from any Apple device and will provide a better file management experience on iOS for your personal and work OneDrive and SharePoint sites. We will share more details when iOS 11 releases.”
iOS 11 is projected to launch in the fall, most likely in September, but a beta version is already available for developers, while a public test build should be released later this month.
