“I think Trump needs help, ” he added. “I’ m not insinuating anything, by the way this will be in the press and it will be horrible, but when was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star appeared to be referencing actor John Wilkes Booth assassinating Abraham Lincoln in 1865.
Depp then responded to the loud cheers and hollers by clarifying that he was not an “actor.”
“I want to clarify, ” Depp explained. “I’ m not an actor. I lie for a living.”
The comment follows a series of similar attacks on Trump by celebrities.
Last month, a photo of comedian Kathy Griffin holding a severed, bloody head of Trump was published. The picture brought outrage on both sides of the political aisle. Soon after, Griffin apologized and admitted she went “too far.”
“I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong, ” Griffin tweeted along with a video message.
