The beloved game publisher had a lot to share. Here was the biggest news.
LOS ANGELES — Nintendo closed out the parade of press events ahead of the Electronic Entertainment Expo with its own live stream detailing plans for its Switch video game console.
The focus of their stream was all Switch, revealing several details on upcoming games for this holiday. Here’s a peek at the five biggest announcements:
Nintendo’s icon will arrive on the Switch console October 27, which means fans of the publisher will get a new Zelda and Mario in the same year.
But let’s get to the game itself, because it looks spectacular. It’s a “sandbox” style game, which means Mario can go anywhere and explore. The highlight of Nintendo’s reveal was the use of Mario’s hat, which he can throw at enemies to control them.
The reveal was literally a slow zoom out to a logo, with the line “now in development for Nintendo Switch.” But this is likely all fans of the series dating back to the original Nintendo Entertainment System need. If you really like logos, watch it again.
Of all the third-party support Nintendo Switch has received since launch in March, this might be the biggest. Rocket League has exploded into one of the most popular video games available, combining high-powered cars with soccer. It’s out this holiday, and will feature cross-platform play, meaning Switch players can enter matches with players on other devices.
The biggest hit of the Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild, will welcome two expansions this year. The first is called The Master Trials, and launches June 30. The second expansion, The Champions Ballad, arrives later this holiday. Players can buy them as part of an expansion pass for $19.99.
