An untitled Star Wars game from Visceral Games was shown off at E3 2016. However, the project didn’t even receive a mention this year. The reason for this has now been detailed by several executives.
E3 2017 is well under way, with EA having wrapped up its press briefing already. The company unveiled numerous games including Anthem, A Way Out, Need for Speed Payback, Star Wars Battlefront II, Madden 18, NBA Live 18, and FIFA 18. However, one title that is notably absent from this lineup is Visceral Games’ upcoming untitled Star Wars game. The reason for this has now been detailed by several executives tied to the project.
Visceral’s Star Wars was first showcased at E3 2016 last year. However, the title didn’t even receive a mention this year. According to Visceral’s senior creative director Amy Hennig, the reason for this is that 2017 is ” Battlefront 2 ‘s year”:
Indeed, Star Wars Battlefront II was the center of attention at the EA Play 2017 event, with the company dedicating a sizeable portion of time to it. The co-writer of Visceral’s Star Wars game Todd Stashwick tweeted a similar message, saying that:
Not much is known about Visceral Games’ untitled Star Wars game but we do know that Hennig is at the helm of the project. The executive previously worked as a creative director on the first three Uncharted games, and there have been hints that the unnamed title will sport similarities to the popular franchise. Last year, reports also emerged that Respawn Entertainment is working on a Star Wars game as well. That said, with 2017 being the year of Star Wars Battlefront II, it’s unlikely that we’ll hear about Visceral’s or Respawn’s endeavors for some time.
Those eager to get their Star Wars gaming fix will have to rely on Battlefront II for now, which features a single-player campaign mode – unlike its predecessor – with a brand new Star Wars story about a special forces commander in the Imperial army set on avenging the death of the Emperor and the loss of the Death Star.
