'Holy heartbreak, Batman': Stars remember Adam West on social media

Mark Hamill, Robin Lord Taylor, Val Kilmer and ‘Big Bang’ producer Bill Prady paid tribute to ‘Batman’ star Adam West after learning of his death Friday night.
Jamie Lee Curtis put it best: “Holy heartbreak, Batman.”
“Adam West was a big part of my childhood, ” she wrote on Twitter. “We were acquaintances in my adulthood. A wonderful man who will be missed.”
She was one of a number of famous fans and collaborators who took to social media Saturday to remember the Batman icon, who died Friday night at age 88.
Ben Affleck, who embodies the most newest big-screen Batman, wrote, “Adam West exemplified heroism. Kind, funny and an all around great guy. Thank you for showing us all how it’s done.”
Robin Lord Taylor, who plays the Penguin on Fox’s Batman prequel Gotham, remembered him as being “every bit as gracious and loving in person as you’d expect.”
Star Wars ‘ Mark Hamill, who has voiced the Joker in numerous Batman animated shows and video games, backed Taylor’s statement up, called West “a wonderful actor & so kind.”

And Warner Bros., which has produced the modern Batman films, hailed West as one of the greatest to put on the Batsuit.
“ Family Guy has lost its mayor and I have lost a friend, ” the show’s mastermind, Seth MacFarlane, lamented, calling West “irreplaceable.”
Macfarlane added, “His positivity, good nature and sense of fun were undeniable and it was always a big jolt of the best kind of energy when he walked in to record the show. He knew comedy and he knew humanity.”
“Batman first but forever CATMAN on #FairlyOddparents, ” noted Fairly Oddparent s creator Butch Hartman . “Thanks for the laughs, Cat Crusader.”
The Department of Defense noted West’s service to the U. S. Army and Armed Forces Network, noting, “He was our hero long before the cape.”
“He is revered by my generation of comedic minds, ” wrote Conan O’Brien . “He was also a sweet and lovely man and it was a rare honor to know him.”
Big Bang Theory executive producer Bill Prady shared a photo from West’s 2016 guest appearance and wrote, “So long, old chum.”
Author Neil Gaiman expressed regret for not nerding out when he met West.
“Ah, dear Adam West, ” said Val Kilmer . “He was always so kind when we met. A real gent. Once when I was a kid we found ourselves in front the Batmobile. I got in.”
Edgar Wright, who directed Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, noted, “You were MY Batman. Such a super funny, cool, charismatic actor. Loved the show as a kid, still love the show now. POW!
