A Sacramento deputy was shot in the face Tuesday night. SWAT officers found the 27-year-old suspect after a tense standoff. Officials say the deputy is stable, but had to undergo surgery. The suspect was arrested just after 9 p.m. at a nearby motel. The incident started around 6 p.m. Tuesday when officials say the deputy “made contact” with the suspect at a light rail station near Interstate 80 and Watt Avenue. Deputies say there was a confrontation and the suspect shot the deputy in the face and that the suspect was seen running to a nearby Red Roof Inn. SWAT officers then surrounded the motel and evacuated guests.”I was looking out the window and SWAT team basically pointed at me — at the window, and said the guy at the window had AK47’s — told me to get out of my room with my hands over my head, ” said one witness, Tony. The suspect was eventually spotted by a police robot. Officials say the deputy is a four-year veteran, who was working overtime because security had recently been increased at several lightrail stations.
