While Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note8 is indeed coming, there was only speculation about when it would arrive. Now, it appears that a tentative date has been set for sometime in August.
While Samsung has entered the early part of 2017 in spectacular fashion selling over five million of its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets, the firm still has much to prove with its next Galaxy Note handset, which could be coming in the next couple months.
It was in early January that Samsung acknowledged that they were still committed to the Galaxy Note8, revealing that it would be “better, safer, and very innovative”. While there has only been speculation about when the handset would arrive, it looks like a new report might have the date pegged for August 26.
According to the source, the reveal date could still change but may only shift by a day or two pending venue confirmation. The August date is crucial for Samsung because it is a month in advance of when Apple is rumored to be announcing its own handsets. Last year, the Galaxy Note7 also had an early debut, which many believe, led to its demise, with Samsung rushing the production process.
If recent leaks are to believed, the handset should look similar to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, only being a bit wider. While it will have a near bezel-less look, the device will not offer an embedded fingerprint reader under the glass and will instead feature it on the back. If the fingerprint sensor rumor turns out to true, it might be a bit of a letdown, but there is an upside with the possibility that it might be one of the first handsets on the market with the yet unannounced and unconfirmed Qualcomm Snapdragon 836.
Naturally, we will have to wait for more information to surface, but if the August 26 reveal date is accurate, we won’t have to wait much longer.
