Political differences are nothing new for our country, but the level of political attacks from both sides of the aisle threatens us all and there is plenty of blame to go around.
Our media and our culture now promotes and even encourages the worst in people. Respectful disagreement on issues has been replaced by open attacks where everything and everyone seems to be fair game.
Extreme positions leave no middle ground for issue resolution. Neither side is right all the time or wrong all the time.
It seems we have lost our moral filter and compass. As we have seen in the past, our elected officials will momentarily put their differences aside to give the appearance of unity but will soon be back at each other’s throats.
From late night comedians to high ranking officials, destructive behavior seems to be everywhere. The issues our country faces are serious and many require a more respectful and thoughtful approach than they are getting.
There’s no excuse for those who resort to violence to express their frustrations but likewise there is no excuse for those whose actions, intended or not, cause much of that frustration.
We are on a dangerous path and we had better stop and change direction before it’s too late.
