Compiling the perfect Michigan summer playlist requires songs with a specific vibe: the feeling of warm wind blowing through your hair as you drive along a picturesque lakeshore with the windows down.
That’s where I started, anyway, while compiling this list. From there, I sought out tracks that are cheery and upbeat, and maybe about love, or tinted with nostalgia. That’s a lot of songs, so I came up with more concrete criteria: the artist had to be from Michigan. (And if the song was about Michigan, that’s even better.) Here are a dozen cuts to soundtrack the hot months in our beloved state.
