Amongst the host of big names and former major champions atop the 2017 British Open leaderboard, there’s one name even the most avid golf fan wouldn’t recognize: That of Austin Connelly?
So who is Austin Connelly, who sits T-3 and six shots out of Jordan Spieth’s 54 hole lead? Here’s a quick rundown.
Connelly is a 20 year-old Canadian-American golfer who opted to turn professional in 2015 rather than going to college. He tried and failed in his attempt to progress through Web.com Tour Q-School in 2016, so he instead took up reigns in Europe.
He’s had much more success across the pond: After progressing through Q-School, he’s racked-up two top ten finishes at two more top-25s.
And now, he’s in a chance of winning the British Open. Unlikely, of course, but stranger things have happened.
