HANOVER, MI — Decked out golf carts, countless tractors, firetrucks and candy highlighted the parade in Hanover on July 4.
The road was lined by hundreds of kids and adults of all ages dressed in red, white and blue, and many also donned outfits covered in glitter and sparkles.
“The parade is just awesome, ” Hanover resident Kaye Nutt said. “I’ve been here every year (since) the parade started.”
After the 50 minute parade, attendees headed over to Perrine Park, for a chicken barbecue, 3-on-3 tournament, kids’ carnival games and live music.
Hanover-Horton Area Lions Club cooked 600 chicken halves and 130 smoked pork chops, member Brian McClain said.
“I’ve been doing it for 15,20 years, ” McClain said. ” (The club) has at been doing it at least 30 years.”
Fish were also popular at the park, but these were goldfish given away as prizes for a carnival game.
There were 125 goldfish available, and committee member Joan Ashworth said she was confident they would all be gone before the end of the day.
Layla Van Dam, age 7, won three goldfish from the game and said she was happy because they would keep her pet turtle company.
Three days of festivities in Hanover will conclude with fireworks at dusk tonight between the Village and American Legion baseball fields.
