Former President Jimmy Carter was hospitalized after collapsing due to dehydration on the construction site of a Habitat for Humanity house in Winnipeg, Canada.
July 13 (UPI) — Former President Jimmy Carter was hospitalized Thursday after collapsing due to dehydration on the construction site of a Habitat for Humanity house in Winnipeg, Canada.
A spokesman for the nonprofit said Carter, 92, was doing well.
” [He] told us he’s OK and being taken off site for observation, ” the spokesman said .
A subsequent statement from the Carter Center echoed the spokesman’s remarks. Neither group said whether Carter would be hospitalized overnight. Former first lady Rosalyn Carter accompanied him on the humanitarian trip and was alongside him when he was taken to a Winnipeg hospital for rehydration.
The Carters have made Habitat for Humanity a centerpiece of their post-White House charitable endeavors. Since 1984, the couple have built or renovated more than 4,000 Habitat homes, the group’s website states.
