Nudges to upgrade privacy settings will hit original Windows 10 users. Microsoft has revealed it will prompt users to install the Windows 10 Creators Update, claiming it’s the best way to keep Windows devices secured against threats. The company explained that each update it will roll out will include important security patches to keep systems secured against threats such as malware and other vulnerabilities, saying Creators Update “provides the latest security protections to help keep you safe”. “Given the Windows 10 Creators Update provides the latest security protections to help keep you safe, we want to help update your device as soon as possible, ” John Cable, Microsoft’s director of program management, Windows servicing and delivery said in a blog post. Failing to download Creators Update will mean users lose out on “quality” updates, which act as an antivirus for the operating system. These will include patches for any new security holes only recently discovered, which Microsoft hopes will help the platform remain the most secure iteration on Windows yet. As a result, Microsoft will bug any users still on the first version of Windows 10, which is out of support, to upgrade by prompting them to review their privacy settings to ensure their device is eligible to upgrade to the Creators Update. “You can choose to postpone this process up to five times with the next prompt asking for confirmation of your privacy settings. It will only take a few moments for what we believe provides you with the best balance between privacy, security, and control.”
