Sally Shaw’s death was likely connected to a rental car that was found damaged in an accident 11 miles away, officials said.
A woman whose body was found by the side of a road in Cherryfield was the victim of a homicide, according to Maine State Police.
Sally Shaw, 55, was identified after an autopsy and investigation, and state police are looking for anyone who may have been in contact with her recently.
Shaw’s body was found early Wednesday morning, after police responded to a call of a woman’s body at the side of Route 193.
Investigators determined that her death appeared to be a homicide. Officials found a black 2017 Chevrolet Impala at the intersection of Route 193 and Route 9, about 11 miles north of the body’s location. Based on the damage to the vehicle and recent activity in the intersection, officials determined the vehicle, rented in Shaw’s name from a business in Bangor, had been involved in an accident at that intersection and the body was connected to the accident.
The vehicle was taken to the Maine State Police Crime Lab in Augusta to be processed.
Shaw previously worked in the home health care field and may have been employed as a CNA. Officials say Shaw had ties to the Downeast area of Washington County, and may have been living in southern Maine.
Officials say they do not believe the public is in danger in connection with the incident..
