A guide to San Juan Capistrano’s summer concerts, events You can bet that fans of the Irish rock band U2 found what they were looking for when they attended San Juan Capistrano’s July 19 free concert in Historic Town Center Park.
The concert showcased the tribute band U2 Experience, serving up the hits without fans having to leave town to see the actual band. The free concert also may have served as a warmup for fans planning to partake in U2’s Joshua Tree Tour on its stop in San Diego on Sept. 22 at Qualcomm Stadium.
The free concert also served as a venue for the city to salute the memory of Marine Corps Capt. Sean Elliott, 30, who died on July 10 with 15 other servicemen while co-piloting a KC-130 Hercules cargo plane that crashed in Mississippi.
His parents, John and Cynthia, reside in San Juan Capistrano. Mayor Kerry Ferguson honored them, their son and the other service personnel with a pre-concert ceremony and invocation. Capt. Elliott had been living in North Carolina. He resided in Orange and San Diego Counties during his youth.
There is plenty more summer entertainment on the horizon in San Juan.
