Blair Walsh: Pointing at Vikings was provoked

“It was definitely not out of nowhere.”
On the surface, it looked like Seattle Seahawks kicker Blair Walsh was spitefully glaring and pointing at the Minnesota Vikings, his former team, after kicking two 52-yard field goals in the second half of Friday’s preseason game. But according to Walsh’s post-game explanation, his actions were far from unprovoked.
Walsh – who the Vikings released back in November – said his former teammates were taunting him the whole game with “Nothing I can repeat here, ” he told reporters after the game, via ESPN .
It’s only Week 2 of the preseason, and Walsh said his gesturing wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, but he also wanted to send a message that “it just wasn’t going to roll off.” The Seahawks beat the Vikings, 20-13, and remain undefeated in the preseason.

“I simply was just responding to getting taunted, ” Walsh said. “I didn’t say anything. When you’ve got guys who were your teammates for five years yelling at you when you’re trying to kick, it’s just odd. And I hope they were in jest. And I hope they didn’t mean it because I didn’t mean anything with mine, but it was definitely not out of nowhere.”
During his five years in Minnesota, Walsh’s famous, rock-bottom moment was missing what would have been the game-winning, 27-yard field goal against the Seahawks during the playoffs in 2016. Seattle won, 10-9.
