Wantagh – Acclaimed musician Ryan Cabrera sat down and chatted with Digital Journal prior to his show at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh, New York. He revealed that the “My2K” Tour (with 98 Degrees headlining) last summer surpassed all of his expectations. “Going into it, it was a little different for me. Initially, I wasn’t sure how I was going to fit in, but when we did it, it was perfect. I was the guy with the acoustic guitar, and I brought the singer-songwriter aspect to that show, ” he said. In particular, Cabrera praised founding member Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees. “Jeff is the best! I don’t think there is a nicer human. He is the sweetest man, and he looks younger than all of us, somehow, ” he said. His plans for the future are to finish his new studio project, entitled Vaca, with Nash Overstreet from Hot Chelle Rae. Digital Transformation of Music: How Technology has Changed the Industry On the digital transformation of the music scene, Cabrera said, “People’s attention span has gotten so quick that they don’t really listen to albums, and that’s the saddest part since I’m an albums guy. I want to hear a whole story from front to back. The industry changed in the fact that it’s all singles, singles. I miss the albums.” When asked how he uses technology, Cabrera said, “I use Instagram, and that’s fun. I try not to take it too seriously. I don’t want to be on a different social site every second of my life. We use Instagram as a tool to spread the word on what we are doing. I think it’s a fun, personal way to get to know the artist. As far as that goes, I think that’s dope. I enjoy that.” The “On The Way Down” singer defined the word success as “being happy, playing music and making other people happy.” “Never taking myself too seriously, but also never worrying about how many records you sell.
