Police say a 29-year-old man drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into another driver, who later died.
BROOKFIELD TWP., MI — A 67-year-old Millington man has died after police say an oncoming driver crossed into his lane and collided with his vehicle head-on.
The man, Donald R. June, was transported to an area hospital, where he died from injuries, said Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson.
The crash was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, on Owendale Road north of Rescue road in Huron County’s Brookfield Township, Hanson said.
Around that time, a 29-year-old Lapeer man, Jameson J. Bruce, was headed southbound on Owendale in his 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck when he crossed into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into June’s 2007 Chevrolet Uplander, the sheriff said.
Members of the Owendale Fire Department had to free June from the wreckage before they could transport him to an area hospital, Hanson said. Bruce, too, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.
Hanson did not say whether alcohol, speed, drugs or distracted driving played a part in the crash.
The roadway was closed for three hours as investigators scoured the scene, Hanson said.
The investigation remains ongoing, Hanson said, and an autopsy for June is pending.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Owendale Fire Department, Sebewaing Village Police, Elkton Ambulance Service and Scheurer Ambulance Service.
