‘His very presence is not acceptable here in Texas’
President Donald Trump visited Texas Tuesday to show solidarity with the victims of Hurricane Harvey, but his stops in two towns were met by liberal protesters.
Trump made an impromptu stop at a fire house in Corpus Christi, Texas, near where Harvey struck as a powerful category 4 hurricane. “It’s historic, its epic, but I tell you it happened in Texas and Texas can handle anything, ” Trump said to hundreds.
He also commented about the crowd size, and stated, “What a crowd, what a turn out.” This address was met by several protesters.
A reporter at the scene documented a sign that said “Liar, cheat, racist, ” one that read “Latinas against Trump, ” and another that read “You pardoned Joe, what about Jose?”
Trump later took off to the state’s capital, Austin, where another protest was waiting to greet him. A Facebook page that organized a protest said that a little over 100 people will attend and that it is mainly to oppose a potential ending of the DACA amnesty program for illegal immigrants who arrived as minors.
The page said: “Please join us in letting Donald Trump know that our undocumented and immigrant friends deserve a life of dignity and respect, that those who serve honorably in the military deserve our honor and respect, that we will not tolerate white supremacy, and that his very presence is not acceptable here in Texas, at a time when millions are reeling from Harvey, Charlottesville, and the further degradation of our Constitution, laws, and country.”
