The resolution called out the racist beliefs of “Nazis, the KKK, white supremacists and other like-minded groups.”
NASHVILLE — While President Trump and U. S. Sen. Bob Corker have traded blows over the president’s response to white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va., the Republican National Committee passed a resolution Friday saying the party is united against racism .
The resolution, which passed unanimously, called out the racist beliefs of “Nazis, the KKK, white supremacists and other like-minded groups” as inconsistent with the Republican Party’s platform, stating that the party believes all Americans stand equal before the law.
“The Republican Party is unified in its revulsion at the abhorrent white supremacist demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Aug. 12,2017 that led to the loss of life and numerous injuries, ” the document stated.
The resolution also noted that the Republican Party was founded in the struggle against slavery and racial beliefs underlying the institution of slavery.

The vote at the committee’s summer meeting in Nashville comes as Trump lashed back at Corker on Twitter Friday in response to the senator’s criticisms.
Corker said last week that Trump doesn’ t understand the character of the nation and has not shown the competence to lead after the president said that there was blame on both sides for the violence in Charlottesville.
Democrats and Republicans have condemned the demonstrations in Charlottesville, where 32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed after authorities say a 20-year-old Ohio man rammed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters.
Both parties have also condemned Trump’s comments that left-wing groups were just as violent as the white supremacists who staged the demonstration.
Many have raised questions about Trump’s personal views of the racial tensions in the country, but in the grand ballroom at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center party, leadership said they are united against racist beliefs wherever they may arise.
“It’s always important to denounce racism and bigotry whenever we see it, ” said New Jersey Republican National Committeeman Bill Palatucci, who sponsored the resolution. “I wanted no ambiguity that the RNC condemns white supremacists, Nazis and the KKK.”
Palatucci said his mother raised him to respect everyone regardless of race, religion or background and that he felt like the resolution passing unanimously was a no-brainer.
