The management of Satchmo SummerFest decided to close the music and food festival on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 5) at 4 p.m. owing to severe rain and street flooding. It is expected to reopen on Sunday (Aug. 6) at noon.

Despite earlier plans to carry on despite the rain, Satchmo SummerFest spokesperson Rebecca Sell said that safety concerns prompted an early shutdown.
She said that the festival staff will remain behind Saturday evening to spread hay and otherwise prepare the sodden grounds for Sunday, when the weather may improve.
