Sony outlines which of its handsets will get Android 8.0 Oreo

Alongside the unveiling of two new phones that will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo, Sony also confirmed which of its existing handsets will get the upgrade to the new version of the OS.
At Sony’s IFA briefing today, the company announced the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact handsets, which will be the first from the firm to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo. In doing so though, it also confirmed which of its phones will be upgraded to the latest version of the OS.
If you’re missing the days when Sony’s naming scheme was a bit simpler, you’re probably not alone.
After Google announced the official name for Android 8.0 last Monday, HTC was among the first to confirm which of its devices will get the upgrade, and that includes the U11, U Ultra, and 10. Other OEMs are yet to make such an announcement; however, Google has confirmed that it’s coming to handsets from Sony, HTC, Nokia, Sharp, Huawei, Samsung, Essential, and Motorola.
Verizon has already rolled it out to its Pixel phones after Google released images for unlocked devices. Sony did not provide a timeline for the upgrades.
