Tropical Depression Emily was moving away from the eastern coast of Florida on Tuesday morning (Aug. 1) , but was still expected to bring 1 to 2 inches more rain to the state. Isolated amounts of rain could reach 4 inches, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center said.
The weather system, which became a tropical storm Monday morning and then was downgraded to a depression later in the day, was moving east-northeast about 12 miles per hour. It is expected to head northeast but will remain “well off” the U. S. coast, forecasters said.
Maximum sustained winds were measured about 30 miles per hour with higher gusts. The storm brought significant rainfall to Florida, according to The Weather Channel.
