The Xbox One S is out now, and here’s everything you need to know about the specs, features, and best deals.
The new Xbox was unveiled at E3 2016 and it is a thinner and more powerful version of the Xbox One. Here’s everything you need to know about the Xbox One S including release date, price and specs, or take a look at our PS4 vs Xbox One comparison and One S vs One X comparison.
The Xbox One S costs from £249 for the 500GB console, and you can order from Amazon, GAME, and Zavvi. You can also buy a larger 1TB version of the console, and there are frequently bundles available that let you save money by buying the console together with a few games. At Gamescom 2017 Microsoft also announced a limited edition Minecraft edition of the Xbox One S, which comes with a 1TB hard drive, an exclusive Minecraft paint job, and copies of both Minecraft and the Redstone Pack expansion.
The Minecraft edition is out on 3 October, but you can pre-order it now directly from Microsoft for £349.99/$399.99, or also from Argos in the UK. There’s also a special Minecraft Pig controller, which will be sold separately.
The Xbox One S is smaller than the original console – it’s 40 percent smaller, in fact. You can see that the design is white with a new style to the front and top including tiny square holes. There’s also a vertical stand so you can have the console upright. It looks like white is the only option for now, and Microsoft calls that white “Robot White.”

Despite making the Xbox One S so much smaller, Microsoft has managed to fit the power brick inside so no longer have you got to find somewhere to hide it near the TV.
More exciting that the design, are some upgrades in terms of hardware. The Xbox One S will support 4K Ultra HD video output for Blu-ray and streamed content such as Amazon Video and Netflix – though not 4K gaming which the Xbox One X will support. It also High Dynamic Range (HDR) , a technology found in some of the latest TVs.
Inside the Xbox One S is a hard drive ranging from 500GB to 2TB so there’s plenty of storage space for new games, app and media. Microsoft is also touting a new ‘streamlined’ controller which comes in a matching white colour. It features and ‘enhanced textured grip’ and Bluetooth for using it with Windows 10 PCs.
