Al Sharpton’s gal pal Aisha McShaw debuts her fashion line, insists she’s not political
She puts the sharp in Sharpton.
Aisha McShaw, Al Sharpton’s longtime girlfriend, launched her 46-piece clothing line Wednesday night at the Prince George Ballroom and is pleased with the results.
“I got tired of wearing other people’s clothes on the red carpet, ” she told us after the show. McShaw now hopes the buyers who came to see the designs are interested in selling them in their boutiques.
“ (Fashion) can unite us and divide us, ” she said, explaining that her eponymous clothing brand will be “affordable” and meant for women of all shapes and sizes.
McShaw says the Rev. Al Sharpton is supportive of her new line — not that he has a choice.
“I turned this apartment into a showroom so there are clothes everywhere, ” she laughed. “We have a sewing machine here, we do most of our production in the apartment, so he’s been very supportive.”
McShaw also takes credit for toning down Sharpton’s dapper look.
“He’s playful, I’ m more conservative and timeless, ” she said. “He likes his pocket squares and I’ m like ‘no pocket squares.’ But I love it. We mix and match and I lay out clothes for him. We have fun.”
Kendall Jenner named ‘Fashion Icon of the Decade’ at just 21
Though McShaw says she isn’t political, she was diplomatic in answering whether she’ d dress controversial First Lady Melania Trump.
“I make clothes for everyone. I’m not into politics, ” she said. “So if Malanie (sic) wanted to buy a dress, I wouldn’ t stop her.”
But Trump would have to pay like anyone else.
“I don’t know about free stuff, ” McShaw said. “Sorry.”
Ironically, when asked who’s the one person she would like to dress, McShaw got a little political and chose former First Lady Michelle Obama.
