Thunderstorms with the potential for severe weather could cut Labor Day plans short this evening in southeast Michigan.
The best chance for thunderstorms is 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in metro Detroit, but some isolated storms could pop up before that, National Weather Service meteorologist Alex Manion of the White Lake Township office said.
The weather forecast has affected area festivals like the Detroit Jazz Festival and could affect Ford Arts, Beats & Eats in downtown Royal Oak.
A tweet posted from the Detroit Jazz Festival’s Twitter account said performances are being delayed due to the weather approaching. Another tweet encouraged people to seek shelter and said performances will resume when the weather clears.

Wind gusts of 60 to 70 m.p.h., hail an inch or greater in diameter and flooding are possible tonight.
“Any severe storms that do happen and develop will be capable of all three of those, ” Manion said.
Temperatures reached the 80s at Detroit Metro Airport today, but there will be a significant drop throughout the week because of a cold front.
“Come tomorrow, you’ ll have temperatures in the upper 60s to lower 70s, ” Manion said.
