‘Great British Bake Off’ star Paul Hollywood sorry for Nazi dress

“The Great British Bake Off” star Paul Hollywood has apologized after an old photo of him donning a Nazi uniform made the rounds on the internet.
British tabloid The Sun dug up the photos Sunday, which feature the celebrity chef posing alongside a friend in a pub wearing an outfit complete with a swastika-adorned armband and an iron cross.
“I am absolutely devastated if this caused offence to anyone, ” Hollywood, 51, said in a statement. “Everyone who knows me knows I am incredibly proud of the efforts of those, including my own grandfather, who fought against the Nazis during the war.”
Hollywood explained that the photo was taken 14 years ago en route to a New Year’s Eve party with a TV comedy theme.
He and his friend were attending as characters from “‘Allo, ‘Allo, ” a long running British sitcom set in German-occupied France during World War II.
Hollywood rose to prominence in the U. S. thanks to the wildly popular “Great British Bake Off, ” where he serves as a judge.
“Bake Off” airs on PBS under the name “The Great British Baking Show, ” and has also found new legions of American fans on Netflix.
The show received a casting shakeup last year when it switched from the BBC to Channel 4 and lost popular hosts Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins in the process.
