Hurricane Irma: Universal calls off second night of Rock the Universe

Storm prompts theme park to abbreviate annual Christian music festival
Hurricane Irma and its stormy conditions have prompted Universal Orlando to cancel the second evening of its two-night Rock the Universe event scheduled for this weekend.
Saturday’s concerts and activities for the Christian-music festival at Universal Studios theme park have been called off. The Friday concerts will continue as scheduled.
Friday performances scheduled for the Hollywood Stage will be moved indoors to one of the park’s soundstages.
The worship service planned for Sunday has also been canceled. There are no plans to reschedule, Universal said.
Customers who purchased a Saturday-only ticket to the event can use it for admission on Friday without additional charge.
Visitors holds one of the event’s Rock Your Weekend tickets can opt to use the unused theme-park tickets before Dec. 20. Refunds are also available.
Universal Orlando’s regular park operations and hours are otherwise continuing as normal, a spokeswoman said Thursday afternoon.

Walt Disney World also decided to abbreviate its Christian-music festival. It will host Night of Joy on Friday at ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, but Saturday’s concerts have been canceled.
