INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indianapolis man accused of fatally shooting a police officer who was trying to help him following a car crash wants his trial moved out of Marion County.
An attorney for 28-year-old Jason Brown filed a motion for a change of venue Thursday in Marion Superior Court because of pretrial publicity about the case.
WTHR-TV reports the motion cited public hostility toward Brown and public outrage over the shooting that could prejudice jurors.
Brown is charged with murder in the July 27 slaying of 38-year-old Southport police Lt. Aaron Allan, who suffered 11 gunshot wounds. Brown also is charged with marijuana possession.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry has said he’s considering seeking the death penalty in the case.
