House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy R-Calif., said he has no problem with President Donald Trump dealing directly with Democrats on major issues, CNBC reported.
McCarthy’s comments came Thursday during an interview on the network’s “Squawk Box.”
“I think it’s always good when the president is talking to both sides, ” he said.
His comments followed a dinner at the White House with President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Rep. Nancy Pelosi. D-Calif. The two lawmakers said there was an agreement with Trump supporting congressional actions to put Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program protection into law, CNN reported.
Trump stressed no final deal was made, but later said he was “fairly close” to reaching one, according to USA Today.
Meanwhile, McCarthy was asked on CNBC whether House Speaker Paul Ryan R-Wis., or Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., were upset that Trump went around them.
“I don’t think people are miffed if we’re able to get something done here, ” he said.
McCarthy also said DACA “needs to be fixed as we move forward.”
And he added: “I would like to see immigration overhauled completely because I think it’s crazy we have individuals come to America, become engineers and you tell them to ship them someplace else.”
