TUSCOLA TWP, MI — A 72-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to an out-of-county hospital Wednesday afternoon after he struck a mail truck that was attempting to turn, police say.
The crash occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, on Truax Road near Reese Road about two miles east of Frankenmuth, said Tuscola County Sheriff Glen Skrent.
Skrent said the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound behind a mail truck when the truck indicated with the blinker to turn left into a driveway for package delivery.
The sheriff said the Vassar man might not have seen the blinker due to the sunlight and attempted to pass the mail truck.
The man then struck the truck near the driver’s side corner, causing him to leave the roadway, enter a ditch and strike a tree, Skrent said.
The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was airlifted from the scene to an out-of-county hospital, Skrent said. The sheriff did not disclose the extent of the man’s injuries.
The man driving the mail truck was not injured, Skrent said. The crash remains under investigation.
