EAST RUTHERFORD, N. J. – If there was any doubt as to whether he would go, New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. erased it with one sprint.
During pregame warmups at MetLife Stadium prior to New York’s game Monday night against the Detroit Lions, Beckham took off and unleashed a full-speed scamper on a go route and hauled in a pass from quarterback Eli Manning. That was after he had been mostly subdued throughout the session, testing his injured left ankle.
Moments later, when the Giants officially declared their inactive players, Beckham was noticeably absent, indicating he would make his season debut.
Beckham has been dealing with a high-ankle sprain suffered Aug. 21 in a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. He previously said the ailment was a “six-to-eight-week” injury, while a return Monday puts him back in four weeks.
Beckham returned to practice this week, the first time he had done so since the injury happened. The Giants had listed him as a limited participant throughout the week, and declared that he would be questionable to play.
Beckham missed New York’s season-opening 19-3 loss against the Dallas Cowboys last week – a dismal performance in which the Giants gained only 233 total yards, and just 198 passing yards.
Last season, Beckham caught 101 passes for 1,367 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
