Police identify man killed in crash while working on disabled vehicle

Two other people were injured, one seriously, police said.
GUN PLAIN TOWNSHIP, MI — Police have identified a man who was killed and another who was seriously injured when a passing vehicle struck a disabled vehicle on the side of the road that the men were working on.
Theodore Michael Cole, 34, from the Kalamazoo area, died in the crash, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said.
Caleb Allen Hawkins, 20, from the Kalamazoo area, suffered serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said. A third victim, Matthew Ryan Madill, 20, from the Delton area, suffered minor injuries.
It happened about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, on 10th Street near 110th Avenue in Gun Plain Township, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office said.

The two men were working on a broken-down vehicle with an attached flatbed trailer on the side of 10th Street when a second vehicle travelling north hit the back of the trailer, police said.
Cole was found dead at the scene, police said.
The vehicle that hit the trailer was significantly damaged and the occupants suffered minor injuries, police said.
The occupants of the second vehicle were wearing seat belts. Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The question of visibility is being investigated and the crash remains under investigation, police said.
Police have not released the names of the people in the other vehicle that was involved.
