If you’re tired of testing out Apple’s beta software, now is the time to remove your device from the Public Beta Program. With iOS and tvOS public releases today, new betas are around the corner.
Today, Apple will be releasing iOS 11 and tvOS 11 to the masses, which means a few things: app updates are incoming, folks are going to ignore advice to back up their devices, and you need to consider if you want to stay on the Public Beta Program.
We’re now in a narrow (probably very narrow) window where these are the latest shipping versions of the OS, and there aren’t yet any new betas available. This means that it’s the perfect time to come off of the beta program, as, if you wait until iOS 11.1 beta is out, you’ll have to do a full factory reset through iTunes to roll back, or wait until iOS 11.1 (or tvOS 11.1, for that matter) is publicly available.
Of course, we are not saying that the Program is bad; over here at Neowin, we’re going to be testing the latest beta builds for the foreseeable future. But for some people, it’s just too much to deal with all of the bugs that come from an unstable release, and we can’t blame you for that.
Keep in mind though that the next update will be minor, so it won’t be as unstable as those early iOS 11 builds that are still fresh on your mind. We’ll be expecting Messages in iCloud in iOS 11.1, but other than that, future features are anyone’s guess. iOS 11.1 and tvOS 11.1 could arrive very soon, so you’re going to want to make this decision as soon as possible.
If you want to remove yourself from the Public Beta Program, you can do so here. If you’re on the developer beta and want to stop receiving builds, you can uninstall the configuration profile by going to Settings -> General -> Profile -> iOS Beta Software Profile -> Remove Profile.
