Hear from players and coaches after the Wolverines moved to 3-0 on the season
Overheard after Michigan football’s 29-13 win over Air Force in Saturday in Ann Arbor.
U-M quarterback Wilton Speight, on what Air Force did to give the Wolverines fits on offense: “They were doing a really good job of disguising coverages, disguising blitzes. Oftentimes in the red zone, they’d show one thing until the last second, then they’d bring another look, bring the house. We were making in-game adjustments. … Just trying to adjust on the fly like they were.”
U-M running back Karan Higdon, on having a kicker as efficient as Quinn Nordin: “I think it’s tremendous. I think it’s tremendous to have a kicker of Quinn’s caliber. He’s confident, He’s ready and he works hard.… I love it. I love having him back there. “He’s always picking guys up. ‘C’mon guys, we got this.’ He’s very positive.”
U-M coach on Jim Harbaugh, on Speight: “He’s quarterbacking the seventh-ranked team in the country, with a 3-0 record. He’s quarterbacking the winningest program in all of (college) football, the history of it. It’s good to be Wilton Speight right now.”
Harbaugh, on red zone offense going forward: “Our team is moving the ball. That’s a fact. I think the red zone touchdowns will come.”
Harbaugh, asked about getting stopped in the red zone and wanting to just jam it in sometimes: “We’re trying to score touchdowns. … Do I ever lose my mind and say ‘Let’s jam it in.’ Call the play? The jam-it-in-play? (big smile) Gotta keep a steady hand on the tiller. Play to win.”
